Galbanum Oil Türkiye

GREEN | Herbaceous, Balsamic
Flowers of the galbanum plant

Classified as a green note, it is both earthy and fresh, bitter and resinous. Olfactively, galbanum has a strong, incisive, pungent and winged side, but it also has fruity, butyric, fresh and airy notes. Galbanum essential oil has resinous, almost earthy notes, like an intense scent of undergrowth, but with the musky sweetness of angelica roots. It also has a characteristic natural vegetal green note.

Galbanum blends perfectly with citrus and aromatic notes and can be used to recreate green floral notes such as hyacinth, narcissus or gardenia, or in chypre perfumes.

Galbanum is a plant that grows at an altitude of 2,700-3,400 metres. It is a hardy plant, accustomed to growing in harsh environments and doesn’t require much care.

The plant reproduces only through its seeds. During germination, between March and April, it develops a long and deep rhizome and a stem with two small leaves. At the end of April, the green galbanum leaves grow and dry up after one month. By the time harvesting begins in June, the whole plant has dried up. Its resin, which hardens over time, is in the form of round, sticky, yellow to red drops. Each galbanum plant lives for seven to eight years. It flowers just before it dies.

In the third year of growth, a sucker forms on the root collar. Galbanum resin is harvested from this outgrowth between the third and seventh year. The harvesters first dig around the galbanum roots, cut the root collar, then cover it with a stone so that it doesn’t dry out while the resin exudes from the root. This process is repeated three to four times for each plant. The resin is processed into essential oil by distillation.
